A quick overview of how things work at Motionlab...

The Big Picture

We're full service. That means we can work across the marketing mix to provide a fully integrated, strategic service to our clients. Some like to work on a single project some require us to touch all areas of their marketing mix.

While many companies outsource and white label their services we don't. We believe our clients should be able to meet and talk to our teams face to face, removing a layer of management and costs. Yes we have account managers and very good ones but we think this this role is about ensuring complete customer satisfaction and delivering great communications, not to be a wall between client and production.
 

Sounds good... How does it work?

Like all the best things in life, with a great deal of simplicity and transparency. Let's take for example we are working with a client on their full marketing strategy over 12 months... Here's what we do.
 

What's in the purse?

We begin by understanding what money there is in the pot, we need to know this to work out where and when to allocate pockets of budgets to the different marketing channels. This can feel uncomfortable allowing an agency into your budget but it's absolutely essential if we are to deliver a plan that works. Otherwise we may suggest a great idea that we have spent time researching and designing that is beyond your financial capabilities. We may also suggest a much smaller concept that falls short on results when there was budget to do a much wider job.
 

What are your ambitions?

Every marketing budget has to have an end result. 'get more sales' 'make our brand talked about' 'increase leads' 'rule the world' well maybe not the last one but you get the idea. It might be as simple as a cake shop owner wanting to sell more cream buns, it might be a corporate giant needing to reposition themselves to be more socially responsible. We work with you to define your end result. (don't worry, there can be many end results along the journey)
 

Who's going to listen?

Defining your audience is key to keeping budgets on track and not spending unnecessarily. For example there would be no point trying to sell double glazing to someone who already had new windows. So we try to refine your plan to ensure we are targeting only people that are keen to listen.

Ok so we know how much money there is, what your goals are and who your audience is. So it's now time to start on the plan...
 

Choosing the right channels

We need to start with top line channels first then break down into individual elements. For example: Online is one channel broken down into: web, email, seo, ppc, advertising, sponsorship, social media and more. So our first job is to identify where to place your message to be seen by your audience. Knowing your budget helps rule out or count in certain channels, for example, if your budget for 12 months was £12,000 we would immediately discount TV as a channel, we don't think an advert at 6am in the morning that blows all of your budget in 30seconds is a wise move...
 

Slicing the pie

So we have a top line idea of what channels we're going to use we have a rough idea of what portion of the budget will go into what channels, we now need to start breaking these down into finer detail. We often get asked 'how much is a website' which as you can image is an impossible question to answer, it's like asking a builder how much is a house... However, we do know we can spend £1k on a site and £100k on a site. It's what's fit for purpose that counts. We don't spend what isn't necessary, our clients would feel ripped off and our word of mouth sales strategy would go out of the window.
 

Time well spent

By now we will have a dissected budget and a list of tasks that require building and planning. Rolling out a 12 month strategy on time and to budget needs careful thought and preparation. We need to be reactive here as well as proactive. For example we know we need the brand design before the website, we need the packaging design before we place an advert. We also need to be on our toes for any market moves and events that our project may benefit from and react swiftly to capture time of the moment opportunities.
 

Get to work

So we finally get to the point of putting all of our planning and preparation into action, designing the elements, building the technical bits, booking the ads, organizing the PR, choosing the SEO etc etc etc...
